The FO-Star fibre optic star panel has been designed for customers who want a high quality fitting using materials that ensure a long life and easy maintenance over many years.
The interlocking panels are made from waterproof bamboo which gives them a weight advantage for installation over other materials. Bamboo is more expensive to work with than materials such as MDF, ply or Gib, but unlike those materials it will not sag over time and only requires the 4 point mounting system.
Each panel is CNC cut to exact sizing which is essential when linking the panels together and makes a very fine join line. Each panel has locating screws on the back of the panel to locate precisely, hold the panels level and draw them in tight. The mounting toggles, bracket and screws are 304 stainless steel to ensure no failures over time.
The printed or plain polyester vinyl coating on the face of the panels has a UV stabilized lacquer coating over the top to prevent any damage to the inks during cleaning and to keep the image quality for many years.
Each panel has up to 116 fibre optic cables that are drilled and glued into place using a special 3M low melt adhesive so it does not damage the fibre, and loomed to run back to where the light engines are placed, making it easy and quick for installation.
A recessed groove is also cut around the outside edges of the panel to house channel & LED strip if required to create a hidden halo effect.
Once installed the pre-made white skirting with 3M adhesive is then fitted around the outside to hide all the inner workings. The star panels are supplied with White LED light engines, which can be operated by DMX or a remote control, which adjusts the twinkle wheel speed and light output.
Located in Whakarewarewa Rotorua, these two 3 metre x 3 metre Star Panels have been printed with the star cluster ‘Matariki’ (The Seven Sisters). This video shows the installation process of these star panels and the finished product.
